ELECTROCARDIOGRAM
REVIEW
Resource
If you
are looking for a book on EKG interpretation you may wish to consider:
Basic Dysrhythmias: Interpretation and Management,
2nd. ed.
by: Robert J. Huszar
This text is easy to follow and does an excellent job of explaining electrocardiography. It is designed for clinicians with little or no experience interpreting EKGs. It begins with cardiac electrophysiology; then progresses through 3 and 12 lead interpretation. A survey of normal rhythms is followed by stepwise examination of every common dysrhythmia. The text ends with a large appendix of practice strips. Each accompanied by a complete interpretation. This text is available in the UMB bookstore.
Selected EKGs were reprinted from his text.

CPR
REVIEW

This page contains American Heart Association diagrams and instructions for providing CPR. These are intended to refresh the memory of someone who has already been taught CPR. These study guides are useful, but are not a substitute for regular recertification and mannequin practice. Classes are held regularly. If you are interested in attending a CPR class, please contact:

ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT
REVIEW

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is the universally accepted and recommended approach to acute cardiac distress. This standard of care was established with the input of many phyisicians in cooperation with the American Heart Association. ACLS requires a working knowledge of CPR, airway mangement, EKG interpretation, cardiac pharmocology, electrical therapies, and some invasive/surgical procedures. ACLS is taught as a 16 hour course and is offered by the office of professional development in the hospital. Below are algorithims which review steps to follow for a majority of acute cardiac events.
The links below open Adobe Acrobat files which contain American Heart Association ACLS Algorithms (Revised 1994). These may be viewed and printed from within Adobe Acrobat 3.0 or Acrobat plug-in 3.0. Adobe Acrobat is a free external software package used for viewing portable data files (PDF). The software may be downloaded directly from www. adobe.com.
