Mentoring/Shadowing opportunities
This year we have several ways students can find a mentor or shadow a doctor.
- Follow a doctor in the department of Family Medicine at the University of Maryland By following a doctor for
a couple of hours, students are able to see the range of medical issues family physicians deal with on a daily basis.
If interested please email Dr. Colgan at rcolgan@som.umaryland.edu
- Longitudinal Pregnancy shadowing This year we are setting up an opportunity for students to be matched with a pregnant woman.
Students will follow one patient as she attends her prenatal check-ups. This is a valuable way to see the longitudinal care of family medicine
in action. If interested please email Dr. Colgan at rcolgan@som.umaryland.edu
- The Maryland Academy of Family Physicians Mentoring Program This program has been set up to allow students to chose a mentor
on-line. Students can make their selection based on specific interests within family medicine, type of medical practice, and practice setting.
